AGA PDT 2023

Management Concepts visited Orlando, Florida, to exhibit at this year’s AGA Professional Development Training (PDT). It was so nice to meet, network, and attend sessions in person and virtually. AGA provided wonderful speakers and breakout sessions relating to ongoing topics and issues about financial management, analytics, and audits.

The Sunshine State

AGA did a fantastic job ensuring the exhibitors, attendees, and speakers enjoyed their time at the conference. In the beautiful setting amongst the palm trees, they provided many entertaining activities, including a greenscreen photobooth and massages! The greenscreen booth had a variety of movie backgrounds and props and provided a truly magical experience. Furthermore, free shoulder massages helped everyone relax and feel like VIPs. Attendees were able to refresh, recharge, and network simultaneously. Orlando was a perfect location for this year’s PDT, with easy access to Disney World right down the road, great restaurants, a waterpark within the resort, and Disney Springs just a short bus ride away.

Conference Breakout Sessions and Keynote Speakers

AGA PDT ‘23 Plenary and General Sessions continued to exceed expectations. If you missed the “Future-Proofing the Workforce” session, you missed a great update on what our CFO Council Workforce Team has been doing the past year to continue to support the CFO Council’s strategic plan. They announced that the Career Planning Training Tool would be live this fall. We can proudly say that Management Concepts was selected as one of the CFO Council’s Trusted Training Partners to showcase our extensive course listing covering 52 of the 54 CFO FM Competencies. CFO Council developed these 54 competencies from OPM, DoD, and CHCO. The CFO Council and Management Concepts are an excellent fit for career guidance. This portal will provide a simple way to search your job series or competencies you are looking to develop to make sure you are ready for tomorrow’s FM challenges. The panelists also spoke about upskilling group opportunities and summer learning sessions for executive leaders. The CFO Council continues to bring value to the FM workforce year after year. We look forward to seeing their presentation next year.

Having trouble with your agency managing contract funds? Then I hope you attended the “The Budget Left Behind: Managing Risks Around Agency Contract Funds Management” session. Don’t forget you can catch the recording of any presentation in a few weeks. The VA, DoD, and HHS panelists shared their experiences ensuring agencies utilize every dollar tied to their contracts. First and foremost, keep open lines of communication with FM, AC, and programs to maximize your contracts. If that isn’t happening, then you need to investigate why. Traditional drivers to success include planning, projection, monitoring, management, and proactive resolution processes. Step one is planning even before the year opens; step two is managing and monitoring contracts based on projections; and step three is creating proactive resolutions when anything in step two has red flags. Each panelist described how BOTS and RPA have been incredible assets for using integrated data to improve funds management. These BOTS and RPA tools have proved their value and need to be explored within your agency if you want to move in the right direction to maximize your contract management.

Exhibiting

We were ecstatic to greet so many visitors to the Management Concepts booth. We shared our new and trending financial management and analytics courses with both in-person and online attendees while connecting with many great people. A few of our newly available courses include G-Invoicing And The Intragovernmental Process (Course 5138), which helps professionals learn how intragovernmental transactions work within the federal government and how to implement G-Invoicing. Our Budget Analysis Techniques Boot Camp Using Microsoft Excel (Course 5183) teaches professionals how more effective analyses lead to better budget decisions and improved financial performance. Be sure to check out our course listings and trainings for even more financial management and analytics courses.

Many attendees who are passionate about helping their fellow professionals expressed interest once they found out we are hiring. At Management Concepts, we are currently hiring instructors and subject matter experts. Click here to learn more and apply online.
