2023 NASWA Veterans Conference: A Decade of Serving Those Who Served

Management Concepts proudly supported the 10th annual National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) Veterans Conference, held at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC, August 2–4, 2023.  Hundreds of state workforce agency staff came together to stay up to date on timely issues in their field and network with other professionals who share the same passion for assisting veterans in finding employment and purpose.

As the current contract holder to administer the learning portal, instructional design, and course delivery for the National Veterans’ Training Institute (NVTI), a program of the US Department of Labor (DOL) Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS), Management Concepts staff who oversee and administer the programs had the honor of hosting a listening session to hear feedback from veterans service professionals. This lively combination of presentations and small group discussions with a full group debrief was a huge success.

As in previous years, NVTI program managers from Management Concepts presented the popular session “What’s New at National Veteran’s Training Institute,” highlighting new and expanded courses and giving an overview of brand-new certificate programs. Speakers included Ali Bergeron, DOL VETS coordinator; Jillian Fasser, program manager; and Dr. Hannah Toney, EdD, director, custom learning solutions. During the session Bergeron, Fasser, and Toney provided a comprehensive overview of NVTI’s expanding Learning Ecosystem, including new and in-development learning opportunities. Participants came away with a better understanding of how NVTI incorporates feedback into curriculum development and update decisions and had the opportunity to share what they would like to see from NVTI in the future.

In addition to workshops, several plenary sessions held the attention of conference attendees with their dynamic speakers. Keynote speaker Lida Citroën, CEO of Lida360, inspired the audience to understand how to empower veterans to grow their confidence as they prepare for a postmilitary career with renewed purpose and focus. Nikki James Zellner, founder of Where Content Connects, shared her moving journey from everyday mom to activist and law changer with the message that we are all capable of effecting positive change and accountable for being watchdogs in our communities.

Management Concepts is looking forward to just as much inspiration and enthusiasm at the NASWA Veterans Conference in 2024. Until then, view event photos on Facebook, or visit our NASWA partner page for more on Management Concepts and NVTI.
