2023 was a year of growth and new beginnings for the National Grants Management Association (NGMA) Annual Grants Training (AGT), which took place April 10-13, 2023 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC. The AGT, which had in recent years been held in Arlington, VA, moved to Washington, DC, and boasted a record number of attendees and vendors. Over 1,200 grants professionals attended sessions and flowed through the exhibit hall to visit 35 exhibit booths.

AGA kicked off the year with another stellar conference, hosting the 2023 National Leadership Training at the Ronald Reagan Building International Trade Center in Washington, DC. The event took place February 22-23, 2023 with plenary and breakout sessions, and both an in-person and virtual exhibit hall. With over 600 in-person attendees and 500 online, #NLT23 was alive with networking opportunities and of course the opportunity for up to 14 CPEs.

From February 16-17, 2023, Management Concepts staff had the pleasure of returning to San Antonio, TX to support the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Alamo City Chapter Professional Development Symposium (PDS) as a Diamond Sponsor, presenting a session as well as greeting ASMC members at our booth in the exhibit hall. Several hundred attendees gathered at the education center at Fort Sam Houston to attend sessions and earn continuing education credit, explore the exhibit hall, and network with other defense financial management professionals.

The National Contract Management Association (NCMA) Government Contract Management Symposium (GCMS) 2022 drew crowds to Bethesda, MD, and the virtual conference platform to learn from contracting professionals tackling the theme “Get It Done: Solutions from the Front Lines.”

The event kicked off on Sunday, December 4 with a welcome reception that included a cookie decorating contest and a festive holiday sweater contest. But December 5th and 6th were all business as attendees attended sessions and earned continuing education credits.

Management Concepts was pleased to return as a Bronze Sponsor to the Federal Aviation Administration Managers Association (FAAMA) 41st Annual FAAMA Convention and “Managing The Skies” Expo (FAAMA Convention). This year’s inspiring theme “Navigating Tomorrow – It Starts with Us!” was future-focused, stressing the need for leadership in action, and enabling Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) managers to implement the policies that will enable the FAA workforce to meet the needs of a workforce facing hiring and development shortfalls in the face of looming retirements amongst senior staff.

Frequent attendees of conferences and workshops will agree: getting back into the field after two years of social distancing is a difficult task. There are rules to remember and ways to network and connect that we may have forgotten. Like any skill, conferencing is one that must be practiced to stay fresh. Attending your first conference after a few years of being apart, or in a new professional field—or even your first conference ever—can be daunting. Management Concepts was proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2022 Blacks in Government (BIG) National Training Institute (NTI), which took place August 15-18, 2022 in Cleveland, Ohio. Over 1,200 attendees were excited to see each other face-to-face, make new friends, and reconnect with others.

Management Concepts visited Anaheim, California to exhibit in this year’s AGA Professional Development Training (PDT) from Sunday, July 17 to Tuesday, July 19. We were especially excited for this year as this year’s conference was the first in-person event in two years. Our representatives for this conference met, networked, and attended sessions in person this time around. AGA provided wonderful speakers and breakout sessions relating to ongoing topics and issues about financial management, analytics, and auditing.

After two years of virtual events, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) returned to the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C., for the 2022 NASWA Veterans Conference on July 28–30, 2022. State workforce agency staff were excited to greet each in person for three days of learning, networking, and sharing the latest information in the field.
